NEW GAME
There are no reels, no paylines, and no Bonus Rounds in Home Run Derby. What you’ve got instead is a cartoon baseball stadium with palm trees, floodlights, a packed crowd in the stands, and a voxel-style batter at the plate waiting for a pitch. The art style is chunky and colorful – the characters look like they’ve been pulled out of a mobile game, which gives the whole thing a pretty casual feel.
Gameplay revolves around picking a direction to swing on each pitch: left, center, or right. Guess correctly, and you’ll hit a home run, which bumps the Multiplier up, and you can Cash Out whenever you want. Miss, however, and the round is finished. Bets go from 1.00 to 100, with a 50,000x Win Limit and 19 swings available per round.
Cash Out Between Swings
After every home run, the Cash Out option appears. What you’d get paid is the current Multiplier multiplied by your total bet. If the number looks good enough to you, take it and move on. Or you can let it ride, but you’re gambling the whole amount on the next swing.
Commentator and Sound
A commentator calls each result as it happens. You’ll hear the crack of the bat on a successful swing, or a whoosh on a miss, and there are crowd noises in the background the whole time. It’s not a complicated audio setup, but it does add to the atmosphere.
Win Limit
The Multiplier is capped at 50,000x, and the game pays you out automatically if it reaches that ceiling. Given that you’ve only got 19 swings per round and a miss at any point ends things, it’ll take lots of nerve to walk away the champ.
